NYSUT again named top national fundraiser

O

nce again, NYSUT members led the nation in raising money to support the American Cancer Society’s 2024 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.

For the second consecutive year, our union was nationally recognized as the top organization across the country for its contributions.

NYSUT teams from every corner of New York participated in Making Strides events this past year. Together, we raised $773,358 — a $73,000 increase from the previous year — surpassing major companies including Walmart and Chevrolet.

Additionally in 2024, NYSUT increased our presence throughout the state with nearly 1,000 more registered participants than in 2023.

“From Buffalo to Brooklyn to Jones Beach, NYSUT members came together to help fund the future of cancer research, patient support and advocacy,” said J. Philippe Abraham, NYSUT secretary-treasurer, whose office coordinates the statewide union’s social justice initiatives. “As educators, our members often see the far-reaching impacts of this disease within our schools. Their tireless tenacity year after year for finding a cure is a testament to their love and support for their students, colleagues and communities.”

NYSUT is a flagship sponsor of the annual Making Strides walks and, since 2002, has raised more than $18.3 million for the cause.
